Something's Fishy

Considering it's Friday, I have to say it was a pretty productive day.  Elizabeth went to school, Steve and I got some bills paid and ran some errands, had lunch at a yummy diner, fixed our rickety porch steps and picked up Elizabeth from school.  In between I even managed to get a couple boxes of scrapbook stuff unpacked (are you happy now Karen?) LOL :)  After retreiving our offspring from the learning institution, we decided to take another drive to Red Lodge to do some fishing in Greenough Lake.

We met some of the locals and fed them a few worms.  Funny story; I later saw two of them literally tug-o-warring over some fish guts.
It was hilarious! And disgusting.

Fish heads, fish heads
roly poly fish heads.
Fish heads, fish heads
eat them up, yum!

Fish juice in my mouth...yummy :P

Not a bad haul, huh?  We caught a few more than 10 Brook Trout (about four each) but released a few who weren't hooked too badly.  Afterwards we walked back to the truck and got drenched in a storm.  The End.

A Birthday Beyond

Today, August 25, is my granddad's birthday.  He would be 84. Although he is no longer here with us, it is still a celebrated day in our house usually by way of something yummy such as chocolate or lemon meringue pie; two of his favorites.

Granddad had a long and interesting life made even more so by the fact that his life began as an orphan in Colorado during the beginning of the Great Depression.  Throughout his life he served in the Army during the beginning of WWII, worked on a fishing boat in the Great Lakes and logged and raised pigs in Northwest Montana.  He enjoyed many outdoor activities as well including skiing, swimming, gardening and, of course, fishing.

Please enjoy some photos of my granddad John that always make me smile as well as a poem I wrote for him for his 80th birthday party; the last one he shared with us.

This was him when he was 32;
just a year younger than I am now.

This is a picture of Granddad and
my mom Joetta on her graduation day.

Here he is on my mom's Welch pony.  I'd like to tell you the horse's name but unfortunately it was very politically incorrect.

This is a picture of my Granddad,
Grandma Betty and her parents Joe and Lena.

Opening Christmas presents!

             Four generations

Dear Granddad, I would like to say
how much you mean to me,
You took me fishing and bike riding
and helped me climb up trees.

You've taught me so much in my life
like gardening and such,
I wanted you to know
that I love you very much.

So happy birthday from us all
who've learned so much from you,
We hope that you have many more and
that your wishes all come true.

I'd like to say just one more thing
like 'holy cow' and 'oh good gravy',
   It's all so unbelievable
   that you are turning 80!

Happy Birthday, Granddad!  We miss you.

School Days

It's that time of year again.  Time for backpacks, new clothes and the ever-present aroma of bleach and tator tots.  Yes, folks, it's the first day of school!  As I am now the one packing the lunches and overseeing the homework, these smells no longer plague me but have been passed down to a new generation as my daughter, Elizabeth, made her trek into First Grade this morning (you know what they say about paybacks).

So as our kids begin their new year with optimism
and excitement, I implore you all to enjoy the day as I did; in your comfy pajamas with a hot cup of coffee and a few hours of reality tv!

Good times.

And remember: Be kind to your teachers
(this includes all forms of bribery including but not limited to coffee cards, massages, etc.)!

The Daily Show

Well, unfortunately it's one of THOSE days.  You know the ones; boring, mundane, slow.

Days full of things like this...

...and this...

....and this.

OH WAIT!  That's just me :)

So, that is what I will be doing for the rest of the day.  What will you be doing??

Welcome to the Fair!

As planned, my family and I traveled to Billings on Saturday to attend the Montana Fair!  For most of us in the Northwest, the fair is a big deal and the last big hurrah of the summer.  Our daughter, Elizabeth, had a few new fair experiences and oddly enough, so did I!  Here are a few of the things we enjoyed at the fair:

The Food

Don't they look yummy? Unfortunately with my braces I am not allowed to partake
but it's on my "Foods to Eat When I Get My Braces Off" list.

The Rides

                           WEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

This was the first year
Elizabeth really enjoy the rides!

The Games

WINNER!
WINNER!
WINNER!

and my favorite...
The Animals

And the grand finale...MONKEYS!

 Azumah

 Dagney

Mickey

Dagney and Mickey both appeared in the movie 'Evan Almighty'!
Mickey was also the star of this Super Bowl commercial:

The best part about the Wild About Monkeys show was...

...meeting Mickey up close and personal!

Welcome to the Blogosphere.

So this is blogging.  Well, I can't say I was surprised that this internet thing wouldn't be as easy for me as everyone else makes it seem.  See, I repel technology (yes, that's right, 'Twilight' quote right off the bat.  Deal with it.).  Seriously, anything that runs off batteries, a cord or requires more than a five-year-old skillset is guaranteed to crash and burn in my incapable hands.  Point in case:  I have had my blog for a matter of minutes and I was already having trouble figuring out how to edit my photos just to get them on the blog.  Geez.  On a brighter note, rummaging through moving boxes trying to find my external harddrive and wireless mouse has lead me to all sorts of discoveries (more on the move later).  In the mean time, I'd like to say how incredibly jealous I am of those of you who can run your fancy hair dryers and your shiny toasters without so much as a burnt piece of toast. Byte me :)
